WINTER STORM WARNING: NON-EMERGENCY CITY OF OXFORD FACILITIES
WILL BE CLOSED JANUARY 10 AND 11, 2025
In consideration of the safety of both the citizens and employees of the city of Oxford, all non-emergency city facilities will be closed on Friday, January 10, and Saturday, January 11.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Calhoun County effective until 6 a.m., Saturday, January 11, with a forecast of freezing temperatures, sleet, and snow beginning early Friday morning.
The NWS warning, issued at 3 a.m. Thursday morning, forecasts heavy snow, mixing at times with sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulations are forecast to be between 1 and 3 inches, with ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch.
Oxford's Public Safety and Public Works departments, along with Oxford Health Systems, are prepared and ready to assist in any circumstances that may arise during these extreme weather conditions.

The Oxford Police Department will also be available to check on residents for whom there are concerns about their welfare and safety during the winter storm.
SANITATION SCHEDULE
Due to the potential inclement weather Meridian Waste Services will NOT run on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Service will resume on Monday, January 13, 2025 with Friday’s trash collected on this day. Please go ahead and put your cart out on your regular scheduled day.
Service will complete throughout the week until next Saturday.

CLOSURES
Oxford City Schools will be closed on Friday, January 10, and all extracurricular activities for that day are canceled.
The performances of “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations,” scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Oxford Performing Arts Center, have been postponed. OPAC is working with the producers to reschedule the performances. Ticket holders will be notified by email with additional information on refund requests. No further action will be required for ticket holders to attend on the new performance dates.
Community centers and the Oxford Library will be closed Friday and Saturday. PARD basketball games will be rescheduled.

The United Way of East Central Alabama offers a 24-hour helpline by dialing 2-1-1. United Way is also operating a public warming station available at Martha’s Hope (formerly The Bridge at Anniston First United Methodist Church), 1431 Gurnee Avenue in Anniston.
Alabama Power is encouraging customers to utilize their online outage map to report outages. The map provides real-time updates every 10 minutes and helps crews efficiently resolve outages. TRAVEL CONDITIONS
The National Weather Service cautions that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous, making travel difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning commute. Any lingering moisture will likely refreeze Friday evening through early Saturday morning. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, blanket, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
