March 11 is recognized as National 3-1-1 Day to bring attention to the city helpline, which assists residents who report issues or need information about city services.
Callers to Oxford’s 3-1-1 are greeted by the friendly voices of Sandra and Christie, who are on the phones weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for non-emergency calls and can be reached by dialing 3-1-1 or 256-831- 3121.
Requests or concerns about service can also be submitted through the city’s website at oxfordal.gov/311.
Using the system for non-emergency issues also helps to save lives, as it frees up 9-1-1 lines for emergency calls, which need help more quickly.
The 3-1-1 system invites citizens to connect more closely with the city government and become the city’s eyes and ears.
