Alton Craft has served as the Mayor of Oxford since 2016. Before his election, he dedicated over 30 years to the city’s financial operations, starting as a payroll clerk and later serving as Finance Director.

During his tenure as mayor, Craft considers his greatest accomplishments to be enhancing the quality of life for Oxford residents, strengthening public safety—particularly through the establishment of the East Alabama Metro Crime Center—and assembling a skilled and dedicated team to serve the city. He prioritizes financial stability, employee retention, and community values, including the observance of the National Day of Prayer.

A 1979 graduate of Oxford High School, Craft earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Jacksonville State University.

Beyond his public service, he has dedicated 30 years to coaching youth sports. He is married to Margie and is a proud father to Joshua, Aaron, and Hannah (Jared), as well as a grandfather to two grandchildren.
