Chris Spurlin serves as the Place 4 Council Member and Council President for the City of Oxford. He is also the pastor of Brookside Baptist Church in Oxford and has been a dedicated member of the Oxford City Council since 2008.
During his time in office, Spurlin believes one of his greatest accomplishments has been enhancing the quality of life for Oxford residents through the development of Choccolocco Park, Bynum Community Center, Oxford Performing Arts Center, and the renovation of the Oxford Civic Center. Looking ahead, he sees infrastructure improvements, public parks, the renovation of Quintard Mall, and enhanced access to and from the Oxford Exchange as key priorities for the city's continued growth and prosperity.
A 1985 graduate of Oxford High School, Spurlin earned a degree in Sacred Literature from Covington Theological Seminary.
With a passion for service, Spurlin has been actively involved in numerous civic and nonprofit organizations, including the Oxford Jaycees, Baptist Service Center, World Changers, United Youth Ministry, Calhoun County United Task Force-Safety Division, and the Federal Legislative Committee for the Alabama League of Municipalities. He also serves as chaplain for the Oxford Fire Department and has volunteered as an assistant coach for youth baseball.
Spurlin has been a minister for 32 years. He is a devoted husband to Terrie and a proud father to Ryan (Laura), Kara (Josh), and Kaylee
