ANGELA ROBERTS RETIRES FROM CITY AFTER 23 YEARS

Angela Roberts will leave her office for the last time on Wednesday, July 31, after more than two decades at City Hall.

She will join her husband, Mike, who retired as the city’s building, planning, and zoning director in June.

“I take care of our employees and whatever their needs are,” is how Roberts described the service she has performed during her 23-year City of Oxford career.

Those needs span all the employment issues with the city – from application to insurance to retirement.

“What I do is a little bit of everything. If something needs to be cleaned up, I clean it up,” she said. “If somebody has a problem, I fix it, and if I can’t, I find someone who can.”

Roberts said she enjoys people, can readily name any city employee just by seeing their face, and works with the attitude there is no problem that cannot be solved.

“I started when we were at the old City Hall on Choccolocco Street,” Roberts recalled. “We were all crammed in there like sardines, but it was a good time. I do think back fondly on it.”

Roberts said she does not know what she will do next, adding, “There’s no reason to go except for the fact I want to try it.”

She is certain those plans will include her four grandchildren, ages 5 to 11.

“They seem to be pretty excited, even though they will be in school,” Roberts said.

Roberts has told her colleagues at City Hall to “take care of everybody.”

“And if you need me, I’m just a phone call away,” Roberts said.

The city of Oxford and its employees thank Angela Roberts for her devoted service and wish her a very happy retirement.
