Mayor Alton Craft threw the switch on more than 2.5 million lights at Choccolocco Park on Wednesday, November 20, as the 2024 Festival of Lights greeted the traditional first guests – city employees and their families.

Madison Gardner, special events and sponsorship coordinator for the city of Oxford, greeted those gathered at the start of the mile-long drive waiting for the sparkling route to open.

“We want to first thank all of all incredible sponsors for their continued support,” Gardner said. “I especially want to recognize First Bank of Alabama. They have been our major sponsor for the past three years and we are beyond grateful to have them by our side. Their contributions, along with all our sponsors, help this magical event to continue breaking records every year.”

She also acknowledged the hard work of all the city departments and especially the efforts of the team of workers who constructed the displays and Santa’s Village.

Craft added his thanks to all the city employees “who help make Oxford great.”

“You are the city,” he said to the employees. “It’s not me and the council that do it; it’s you who does it.”

Craft then led the countdown to lighting up the fifth annual Festival of Lights.

The gates will swing open for the general public beginning Friday, November 22.

Tickets are available at the gate or by visiting the website at oxfordlights.com. The website also provides a complete price list of concessions and extra festival activities.

Weekday tickets (Mondays - Thursdays) are $25 per carload and weekend tickets (Fridays - Sundays) are $30 per carload. Ticket prices include admittance to both the drive-through and Santa’s Village.

Festival hours are weeknights from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and weekends from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. through December 12. Beginning December 13, the hours each night will be 5 p.m. through 10 p.m.
