CALHOUN COUNTY EDC RECEIVES FUNDING FOR EXPANSION OF OXFORD INDUSTRIAL AREA

The Calhoun County Economic Development Council received a ceremonial check on Tuesday, December 3, representing funding awarded through the Alabama Department of Commerce’s SEEDS grant program earlier this year.

Don Hopper, executive director of the EDC, said the $858,000 grant supported the acquisition of more than 150 acres of additional property near the Oxford West Industrial Park. The strategic purchase enabled a reinvestment of savings into the site’s development, setting the stage for future industrial attraction and high-demand jobs.

The Oxford site was one of the first grants to be awarded in February through the new program designed to aid with the urgent need for industrial sites in the state of Alabama.

“The EDC continues to do a good job working together with all our municipalities to promote economic growth in our area. This SEEDS grant allows for site development that ultimately will bring new industry and create more jobs for our community,” said Mayor Alton Craft.

“This reflects our area’s shared vision for economic growth,” said EDC chairman Larry Deason. “It’s exciting to see the efforts of our local leaders and state partners materialize into something that will benefit everyone.”

“Through innovative programs like SEEDS, Alabama is ensuring that every community has the tools and resources to compete for the high-quality jobs of the future,” said Governor Kay Ivey. “This investment in Calhoun County reflects our commitment to empowering local leaders and creating opportunities that strengthen both our workforce and our economy. I’m proud of the collaboration between state and local partners that makes projects like this possible.”
