First County Robotics Tournament Displays Area Students' Tech Skills

The inaugural Calhoun County Robotics Tournament was held Friday, April 11, 2025, at the CREATE Technology and Innovation Center.

Nineteen teams of 55 students from eight schools showed off their technical wizardry during the four hours of competition as they put the robots they had built and programmed to test against each other’s mechanical creations.

Awards were given to two co-runners-up and two co-champions in both the V5RC Division for grades 7-12 and the IQ division for Grades 5-8.

The competition was sponsored by the city of Oxford, Noble Bank, and county commissioner Danny Shears.

City council members joined Mayor Alton Craft to welcome the contestants and the family members who came to cheer on their students.

“I want to thank the outstanding Oxford City Schools staff,” Craft said. “They are an outstanding and wonderful group. I also want to thank the city staff who have really put their hearts into this.”

“You can see how great these students are,” he added. “They empower me to wish I could do better.”

The participating schools were Oxford High School, Oxford Middle School, Alexandria Middle School, Alexandria High School, Donoho School, Weaver Elementary School, Weaver Junior High School, and White Plains High School.

Teams from Alexandria Middle took home the IQ runners-up awards while another Alexandria Middle team shared IQ championship honors with the Donoho School team.

Two Alexandria High teams took the V5RC co-champion banners, and two teams from Oxford High shared the runners-up awards.
